The German government is promoting low-radiation mobile phones. A phone with a specific absorption rate (SAR) of 0.6W/Kg or less, averaged over 10g, can now be labeled as an environmentally friendly product.
This new SAR guideline is the strictest in the world more than three times tougher than the one recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
The introduction of a Blue Angel label is a positive step for [the phone] industry and the consumer, the Federal Environment Ministry stated on June 14. The label is designed to help those who have questions about possible health hazards from mobile phone radiation but do not want to do without such devices, the ministry explained.
The Federal Radiation Protection Office has also endorsed the new label. Our goal is to minimize possible risks through precautionary policies, said Wolfram Knig, the head of the radiation office.
